Scripture
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:8-10, ESV
Encouragement
We all have sinned—there is no way to deny it. All mankind is guilty of sin, which is why we desperately need our Savior. To deny that we are sinners means that we claim to be capable of perfectly obeying God’s Word. Other than Jesus Christ Himself, no one has lived a sinless life. Scripture says that if we claim to have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word is not in us.
The good news is that God did not leave us in our unrighteousness. He provided a way out of the punishment for our sins. Denying our sinful nature falsely implies that there is no need for Christ’s sacrifice, but confessing our sins brings redemption and righteousness through Christ’s sacrifice. The Lord is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness!
Reflection
Got sin? Scripture says that if you confess your sins, God will not only forgive your sins, but He will cleanse you from ALL unrighteousness. God is gracious, faithful, and just. Walk in the light as God is in the light!
